Rice Paper Chair (2023)
In adherence to the prompt “Less is More”, I wanted to create a piece entirely out of two materials. I chose to work with rice paper and Nori rice glue. The challenge was to create volume from the material, and it wasn’t until I stumbled across an exposed tree stump where I realized a solution; the cellular structure of the tree created these wedges that composed the body of the stump, possessing visual qualities that resemble folded pieces of paper. The final form of the chair was not forced. It was simply the natural conclusion.
